When I had carpal tunnel, first my gp had me wear wrist braces for two months, (nothing changed) after sent me to the hospital for a nerve test, they place a prong on your foot and you get a shock, then they index, move to your wrist, shock, measure, up your arm to your shoulder, shock every time, then the other hand/arm...consequently they replace the prong with a needle and push it beneath your skin in the same places and a shock respectively time...if the results are positive for carpal tunnel they send you to a orthopedic surgeon, he exams you and sets up surgery...it's outpatient, shots of novacaine in your wrist/hand, you're awake, 15-20 mins. it's done, gauze wrap and a brace, spasm medication, back to the orthopedic surgeon in 5 weeks, later possible physical therapy for up to six weeks.
