My daughter, has a rather ample lump at the base of her neck within the back. Its been in that for more than a week and is very painful for her when she moves. She's put HOT dampen bottles & heat on that spot ONLY to find that this makes the lump larger. She tried using COLD compresses as okay which was EVEN more painful. Prior to this recent lump, she have another in the same nouns of her back sometime ago. She has be seen by HER doctor who said" I cannot find anything. Xrays show no sign of infection. What could this lump Beeeeee?

Maybe something with the lymphatic system (lymph nodes)
Or endocrine system (hormones)
Maybe bring her to a Chiropractor, Or someone else who specializes in problems of this nature, here may be something they can detect that won't show on an x-ray, or maybe the Her doctor or the Radiologist doesn't know exactly what they are looking for or just don't endorse something.
Get a second opinion.

A friend of mine had a posterior injury, one doctor told her all was in good health, after treatment(probably a surgery) she knew it wasn't, she went to another specialist surrounded by another town and got a second opinion. The second doctor told her the first guy wasn't reading her MRI correctly, in attendance still were things that needed fixing.

EDIT: perhaps it is a build up of spinal fluid or some other fluid related to the lymph or endocrine system SO. a fracture or dislocated disc isn't showing on an x-ray because they aren't here to show-up.
