What's the best treatment for a twisted ankle?

I twisted my ankle over a week ago and it still hurts whenever i run or go up and down stairs. what should i do?

Answer:    rest--possibly ice if swelling.
Proper treatment and rehabilitation are essential to prevent a chronic problem from developing. The initial treatment for adjectives sprains is RICE: Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation.

Rest Rest the injured ankle, avoiding any activity that causes further distress. Meanwhile, you can maintain conditioning with happenings that won't stress the joint, such as riding a stationary bicycle, using a rowing machine or swimming near leg floats.

Ice Apply ice as soon as possible. Ice decreases misery immediately by numbing the skin and reduces swelling by constricting blood vessel. Much of the pain from an injury is caused by swelling from torn blood vessel. Controlling the swelling helps you make a speedier rescue.

It's best to use crushed ice in a watertight shoulder bag covered with a thin cloth so it's not too cold against the skin. Apply it for 15 minutes directly over the nouns of swelling. Longer applications may cause a rebound dilation of the blood vessel and may actually increase swelling.

Apply the ice every four to eight hours as long as the swelling continues (even as long as a week). You can use chemical rime packs, but many experts put on alert that because they do not melt the same track as ice, they can overcool the ankle and cause a chemical freeze to the skin

Compression Compress the swollen nouns with an elastic cold compress. Begin the wrap at the toes and continue it up about four inches above the ankle. If you fire up the wrap above the toes, all the swelling is likely to be credited with in the toes.

Don't wrap it so tightly that it causes more stomach-ache or cuts off the circulation to your toes. While the elastic wrap can decrease further swelling, it usually doesn't provide enough support to prevent reinjury.

Elevation Elevate the injured ankle as much as possible, particularly while applying rime; this allows gravity to drain some of the swelling. Place the ankle higher than the knee, the knees higher than the hip and the hip higher than the heart. Use books, a suitcase or a box below the mattress at night; this works better than a pillow.

HTH!.
Well first thing to do, is go to the hospital and procure an x-ray, to make sure everything is OK, i hit my thumb and never knew it be broken or "cracked" before an x-ray, so you should do that if the pain doesn't progress away in a few days.

Also try drinking or eating products that own calcium, as calcium makes your bones stronger.

Use ice if you enjoy swelling, and try to move your ankle less often.

I hope i help you..
Ice and Elevation.
