What's the longest a bruise can end?
My friend had a fall nearly five months ago and bruised her ribs really scantily. There was nothing broken, but she's still get a purple bruise. Is this unusual?
Answer: It's not too common, but certainly not unusual. I alleviate quickly, usually within a week, but I've also have some nasty bruises last for months.
If the strain is gone, don't worry about it. If it still hurts, see a doctor..
How Long Do Bruises Last?
You know how a bruise change color over time? That's your body fixing the bruise by breaking down and reabsorbing the blood, which causes the bruise to go through oodles colors of the rainbow before it eventually disappears. You can pretty much guess the age of a bruise just by looking at its color:
When you first gain a bruise, it's kind of reddish as the blood appears beneath the skin.
Within 1 or 2 days, the hemoglobin (an iron-containing substance that carries oxygen) in the blood change and your bruise turns bluish-purple or even blackish.
After 5 to 10 days, the bruise turns greenish or yellowish.
Then, after 10 or 14 days, it turns yellowish-brown or light brown.
Finally, after roughly 2 weeks, your bruise fades away.
