You may have wax build-up. Try putting some olive oil drops surrounded by your ear. It will soften the wax. If that doesnt' work, you need to be in motion to the doc's to have an Ear Lavage. (remove the wax).

Rapid heart rate and unexplained shivering?

I put a few drops of peroxide in my ear when it does that, and tolerate it bubble for about 5 minutes or so, that is what help me. I make sure it goes low in by tilting my ear.

Why is this up to me?

The middle ear may have infection or your eustation tube may hold excess fluid. It would be best to have it checked out by a physician. Could also be wax build up.
