Why did i wobbly whilst have blood taken?!!?
HI,
Im 10 weeks pregnant with my second child. The midwife visited me today and took a routine blood sample. Halfway through i started to grain strange: light headed, sick etc then i faint.
The midwife was great, laid me down, fanned me to keep me cool etc. She said psyche gone white and my pupils had dilated.
Im not scared of needles, never fainted until that time in my life, had loadsa blood test before, been tattooed and pierced a lot, and hold no idea why this happened.
Could someone please tell me why this might enjoy happened?! I just found it really really odd!
Thank you!
Answers: Feeling giddy or even passing out while having a blood sample taken is more adjectives than you think, and is seldom a sign of anything serious.
Even if you are not feeling overtly anxious, a venipunture procedure can stimulate the vagus nerve, which cause the heart rate and blood pressure to drop slightly. This can make you feel lightheaded, dizzy, and nauseaous. You may turn very whitish and get sweaty. This is called a vaso-vagal response. Although you may not usually get this response, your body is beneath the influence of the hormones of pregnancy - none of the usual rules apply :-)
Your midwife did the right thing. You feel this way because you are not getting ample blood (and oxygen) to your brain. Feeling faint is basically god's way of dictum "Lie down!"
From now on, you'd probably be better off if you lie down during a blood draw. As a nurse, I other do this, as I have had one too many populace pass out on me!
If you'd like more info, google the phrase "vaso vagal syncope"
Good luck to you. Source(s): RN

A medical response would be that in response to unpleasant stimuli such as needles, the body's response is to lower heart rate and vasodilate (the blood vessel near the skin become expand). The result of both of these is to lower blood pressure. Why hasn't this happened before? Well, blood pressure falls during the first piece of pregnancy and would have been lower than normal anyway. Fainting is pretty adjectives in early pregnancy.
There may be something else going on too. Metabolic changes within your body could mean that you had low blood sugar. You could have be dehydrated, or you could be slightly anaemic. Or if you were stressed about the blood assessment it may have affected you more than normal. In any shield, you needn't worry!
My knees hold a unpromising pains?
Before giving blood its important to drink lots of water and munch through plenty in the morning before hand. Also since you're merely ten weeks pregnant you're body is still re-adjusting. I wouldn't worry about it and good luck next to the baby :DWhat's this lump on my fingure?
i think it's a natural armour mechinismAre you anemic?
