Will I ever rime skate or wear commonplace shoes again?

I broke my ankle in 3 places 18 months ago. At the time they put in 2 massive screw and 7 pins. I couldn't wear my normal shoes and it bruised up all the time and hurt adjectives up my leg after walking for a while.

Two days ago I had all the metalwork taken out. It's still bandaged up and hurting me though I can put mass on it with a special boot so I assume all go well.

So when this latest surgery have healed, should I be able to wear my antiquated shoes, walk without strain, ice skate etc? Anyone been here? Thanks.

Answer:    bring in sure you do your physio all the time! this is soooooo important!, did you skate compettively or of late for fun?!
if it was for fun yeah you will just be wary, and be guided by your physio. competatively? em not sure it depends on how you look after it duing the healing process (which will be slow and painful). wearing an ankle support would be a very polite idea when you do skate again

you will have some level of weakness in your ankle due to the break but if you build up the surrounding muscles you should be fine surrounded by time.

you will also have pain surrounded by the joint in the colder weather due to the injury you get. .
It will probably always feel for a time different from your other ankle, perhaps click a bit and a little discomfort surrounded by cold weather etc. Ask your doctor / physiotherapist for advice. I'm sure in time you will be capable of wear your old shoes as long as they are not very giant heels! As for ice skating I would think not for relatively a while until it has fully healed, possibly soon but please don't push yourself too much and seek medical advice. Take suitable care and I hope it heels soon from the removal of the metalwork. Walking yeah i don't see the problem but Ice Skating might put to much pressure and strain on it so i would wait for a bit longer for that but idon'tt see why you will never be capable of.

Hope you get better..

ask your doctor if you can wear of those health sandals while you are contained by your recovering period.

Good luck!.
I broke my ankle last year. It be only a hairline fracture and my ankle is just in a minute getting back to normal size. It is still a tiny bit swollen- and I just had as major a break as you hold had. Muscle damage take longer to heal than does the bone damage and removing those pins and screw had to effect some muscle.

If they did a good work on your surgery, I'd bet you will be able to do all the things you did past. Don't be surprised, though, if your bones let you know when the weather is about to adjustment. As for wearing your old shoes- they will be pretty old by the time you bring to them: another 6 months or more maybe, depending on your level of swelling.
