My husband's thumbs crack often, especially the right one, so what cause this?

My husband can not do it on purpose. What happen is his thumbs feel stiff for a second and next he bends them and they crack. After which, all is support to normal. This is especially true of his right thumb. His right thumb is rather shorter then the gone one. I was wondering what cause this? Does his right thumb crack more often because it is shorter?

when you find hurt why is there a lump?

Do you close-fisted crack "noise" or crack "break skin"?
The noise is just a bubble of nouns (thought to be nitrogen) that gets released when moved. My fingers crack a great deal also. Still no proof this is bad. Also could be from an injury. I own sprained my ankle so many times that I don't know it when I do anymore, but it "cracks" constantly. When i totter "crack, crack, crack...."
