My husband have a stent in his heart and due to a shoulder injury they want an MRI is this not detrimental?

MRI's have no adverse effect. They use one of 2 machines depending on the size of your husband and if he is claustrophobic. If they use the traditional machine, he will be placed on a table that will slide him into a tube and hand a pair of ear plugs due to the contraption makes closely of noise. Or the widen MRI which is basically indistinguishable thing except the contraption moves around and their is no tube to go contained by. MRI's take a deeper look into the body and allow 3D attitude of what ever they are looking at heart, brain back etc. Very Safe. I hope this give you a better understanding. All current commercial cardiac stents are metal, but they are made of MRI risk-free alloys that aren't affected by the magnet. So your husband should be fine.
