Why do they consider acetaminophen cardiotoxic?

The doctor told my friend that acetaminophen can be cardiotoxic and cause heart problems (myocarditis) contained by some people. Why is that? It seem like such a benign drug.

Weak Thumbs?

When used appropriately, side effects are few and far between. The most serious side effect is liver damage due to big doses, chronic use or combined use with alcohol or other drugs that also destroy the liver. Te general rule of thumb is to use acetaminophen for up to 3 days for restlessness or up to 10 days for pain (or up to 5 days to treat a child's pain). If the symptoms do not rearrange, or if they get worse, stop using the drug and see a doctor, or liver mar may occur. I hope this help.

Does anyone take oxycontin and does it minister to?

Acetaminophen is hepatotoxic - toxic to liver - but I could not find any reference stating that acetaminophen effects the heart whatsoever.

Acteminophen is market in masses cold, sinus and allergy preps with decongestants which incline blood pressure, but wouldn't harm the heart.

There's a ton of info on its effects on the liver.

See the wikipedia article.

Hope this help.
