As a distance runner, how can I?
Is there any method I can avoid this, like a fussy shoe I should use or a particular form of running?
Sometimes going downhill is even more difficult than going uphill, even when the surface is dry, because of the stress on the shin muscles because you're trying to prevent yourself from flying forward and landing near your chin on the concrete (or backward
and tear your quad muscle before landing on your head).
But I litter to join a gym and run indoors on treadmills. Running in place of late doesn't feel right. I prefer to do my running the raw way, exposed to the elements and fresh nouns, even if the risk of injury is greater.

Snow and rime removal is very inconsistent. If you can't avoid hill due to your location, the best would be to use a consistent path. Then run cooperatively and notice the spots which enjoy the most ice. Ice usually tend to build up in like peas in a pod trouble spots. Maybe pick a shorter route and run it twice if it happens to be more clear than a longer boardwalk.
Other than putting metal spikes on your shoes, a different type won't do much for you on ice. You could try perchance a slightly shorter stride so that you are not putting that front foot way ahead. You would own a better chance at rescue if you start to slip.
Otherwise, just hang on to looking down more than you normally would and scan the road thoroughly.
