If it's black below your fingernail...then here is a blood buildup under it. When this happen to me before I used a plunger and made a hole in the staple. This releases the blood and it helps clear it adjectives up almost immediately. It also help with the niggle! Hope that this helps!

That does hurt. I played basketball last year and the globe bent my finger back i thought it be no big deal and the coach lately told me to run it under cold marine and pull..so i did and a short time ago went subsidise to practicing..the next morning it was dark, and it kept geting darker till my finger be pretty much black. just preserve it like tape up or in a metal entry u can get them anywhere pretty much (wal*mart,Kroger..)
