Is working at a nursing home (or anywhere), as a CNA, as bad everyone say it is?
I just started the CNA class, hoping it will pass me a better chance at getting in a nursing program soon. I also would close to to work as a CNA while i go to conservatory. Is there anyone who have experience working as a CNA? I love going to the nursing home & visiting next to the residents, so working with elderly nation isn't an issue with me. I'm freshly wondering if the job is a doomed to failure as everyone makes it out to be.. And also, are CNA's treated inadequately by "superior" people? I own worked as a CNA, and there is well-mannered and bad homes. It's not the superior family that's the problem. More often or not it is the certainty that the staff will be short and you will work alot. But when I first did my CNA we were expected to put together our own beds, present baths or showers, shave all the men, and purloin everyone to the bathroom every 2 hours. Clean anyone who had an misfortune, treatments on the skin,and walking when necessary. We lift without aid of any equipment except a belt. Now they enjoy people who do zilch but make bed , some who give showers and analysis people to do the walking. It is not as unyielding as when I did it it in the 80's. And earnings is better. IF you enjoy chitchat and visiting, maybe you should check out classes to be an activities director, or physical analyst, these let you enjoy a little more time. It's a great job if you resembling cleaning up poop and pee.It was intricate for me to work in a nursing home but not because of the brief, just because I get way attached to the patients and after they would die or move to another facility, It was easier said than done. But rewarding. Good luck!
It does cart a special person to know how to do this job minus it stressing you out. Some people trademark excellent CNAs and some do not. Places of employment differ greatly. You might do better working in a hospital--that is up to you.
If you are interested in going into nursing as you stated, this is good experience and yes, it does comfort you to get into the Nursing program. I am a CNA and also go to nursing school for one year since dropping out, do to health reason. Good luck.
It isn't a mission for everyone.It is alot of work,most nursing homes are understaffed.You are on your feet almost adjectives day.You hold to clean up after someone who have an accident.
But,it can also be a particularly rewarding job.You are helping those who can't help themselves.
I enjoy worked in nursing homes for tons years.I started off as an aid while I be going to nursing school.I be a charge nurse and never treated any of the CNA's badly.They are the ones that are doing the majority of the work as far as taking watchfulness of the residents.My job be mainly doing adjectives the paperwork,and it is a never ending mission and handing out the medication.
If you enjoy working next to elderly people,after you are probably going to be ok.Another thing to consider is if you work next to Alzheimer's patients,they can become abusive.I've be thrown against the wall,punched in the face,pinched,scratched...etc.Y... in recent times have to realize they don't really know they are hurting you.
I'm not trying to formulate it sound similar to a bad errand,just some things to consider.I am disabled immediately so I no longer work,but my years at the nursing homes were greatly rewarding,I enjoyed it alot.
Working as a CNA previously getting into a nursing career is a great concept.It will give you lots of experience.

I worked as a CNA for 20 years and I loved it.You will have flawless days and bad.If you are trained correctly, later you will be able to do adjectives the hard lifting and helping short getting harmed or causing impair.Geriatrics is a wonderful field.If you in recent times want to get your foot surrounded by the door as a CNA this is a good start.But don't consent to that be the end--let it be the beginning.Go adjectives the way to RN.Nursing homes and hospitals stipulation caring workers beside compassion.Good luck in your occupation..Does a swollen foot often come near a sprained ankle?
I have be a CNA for 13 years, all of your answerer's are correct, it does clutch a certain party to do the job, it does depend on the nursing home you work at, I'm sure here are superiors out there that are rude to their aides but I hold never worked with one. It's a suitable idea to do CNA work beforehand nursing school, at hand have be many empire come through our facility who have changed their central from nursing after realizing from CNA work that it wasn't something they required to do (Licensed nurses to dirty work to you know, it's not all paperwork and endorsement pills). Also many nursing university will accept you application into their programs much faster if you've worked as a CNA, they get the impression your not walking into the program blindly.
