Dextromethorphan, or DXM, is a cough suppressant found in many over-the-counter (OTC) cough, cold, and allergy preparations. These preparations come within a variety of forms, most commonly gelcaps or syrups. DXM is centrally acting, which finances it works directly on the brain to stop coughs. When used according to package directions or as directed by a strength care provider, dextromethorphan is a protected medication with few side effects. When taken at doses exceeding medical opinion, however, DXM has powerful, mind-altering properties and a host of potentially terrifying side effects.
Recreational users describe DXM "trips" in vocabulary of plateaus of experience that vary near dosage. Generally speaking, lower doses (but still higher than cathartic doses) cause a mildly euphoric and stimulating effect similar to that of enjoyment. At even higher doses, the drug's "stoning" effect increases and hallucination may occur. The best plateaus are characterized by elaborate hallucination and out-of-body experiences similar to those caused by the drug ketamine. During such out-of-body experiences, users perceive a complete disconnection from their body and surroundings, next to no awareness of what they are doing (or having done to them).
Although DXM have a long history of recreational use and is easily to be had, DXM abuse poses a significant strength risk. Some unpleasant and potentially dangerous side effects of giant doses of DXM include:
confusion and/or impaired sensitivity
blurred vision and/or slurred speech
rigid muscle tone or involuntary muscle movement
headache
nausea
vomiting
numb fingers or toes
dry mouth
itchy skin
irregular heartbeat
illustrious blood pressure
decreased expertise to regulate body temperature, which can head to heat stroke
slowed breathing
loss of consciousness
These effects are adjectives temporary and anecdotal evidence suggests that using DXM once or a few times have no permanent side effects.
However, also esteemed to keep contained by mind is that many DXM-containing products also contain other drugs, some of which are weak or even dangerous if taken contained by large amounts. Especially dicey is the cold preparation Coricidin, which combines DXM and chlorpheniramine maleate. Taken at mind-altering doses, these two drugs can be fatal. Adding more drugs to the mix further complicates matter. Little research exists on the interaction between recreational doses of DXM and other drugs, but negative interactions hold been reported to transpire with euphoria, non-drowsy antihistamines, nicotine, some diet drugs such as phentermine, alcohol, and some prescription anti-depressants. One class of antidepressants, called MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors), is specifically dangerous, and sometimes homicidal, when taken with DXM (in any amount, beneficial or recreational). If you're taking an anti-depressant and aren't sure if it's a MAOI, check with your condition care provider beforehand using DXM-containing products for any reason.
As for the effects of long-term DXM use, the jury is still out, but the word so far isn't upright. Anecdotal reports and limited clinical evidence suggest that DXM have addictive properties (including cravings and a "come-down" after the high wear off), and that extensive and prolonged abuse may do learning and memory impairment.
The bottom string is that if you're looking to get your body on, you might want to look elsewhere — the risks of dextromethorphan are nothing to cough at.

you can drink a full bottle of just in the region of any cold medication and feel goofy. excess of time and money but why not?Pain in my right jaw when i yawn or chew. usually hear a pop.?
I hold heard of it, but never done it. In college and glorious school a great deal of my friends were druggies. I believe that it really make you tired and out of it. I know my friends liked to conduct it with alcohol and other drugs. I definately would not recommend it.What can you do to construct a needle hurt smaller quantity?
We've had a few robotrippers contained by the ER. They have some serious problems near a low heartbeat and high blood pressure (lifethreateningly so) until the drug wear off. I would also be concerned roughly doing the drug where in that are other people around. People tend to basically sit and stare out into space, you would not be able to keep yourself if attacked, and you would not be aware of being too hot/cold, wouldn't be capable of ask for help if you needed it.
