I concur with mr. answer but he forgot to say-so that occasionally they will repair the torn meniscus if torn a certain style, ie a bucket handle split. and you only own 2 meniscus unlike one of the other answers stating there are 3, wrong.

The meniscus is a fibrocartilage wad between the bones of the knee reciprocal. It acts as a stabilizer and shock absorber. The tissue have no nerve or blood supply and does not restore to health. Also it tends to acquire more brittle as we age. It can tear from running, or twisting you knees in some sport or newly plain bad luck. If torn the symptoms would be knees pain, or the knees locking up. The repair is through arthroscopic surgery where the torn piece of meniscus is cut out.
