Who does a Hospital Chief of Staff hold authority over?
Does the CoS have the authority over the Administrative office? i.e., Could the CoS tell the manager of Human Resources to hire someone as a file clerk?
Answer:
The CEO's do enjoy authority ove the Administration offices as very well as all other office. They do not have the enunciate in the hiring of someone unless it is a physician or another administrator. The Human Resources Dept. have an influence in the hiring and firing of an individual. The CEO's primary responsibility is to make sure the facility operate within every aspect of the regulation and within the boundaries of a budget presented to them. Hope this help.
Usually "The Chief of Staff" of a hospital is over all medical doctors that practice at hand, and a well qualified physician himself. A nurse director or administrator is the chief of the nursing staff, and usually holds an advanced degree in nursing. SW RNP
