How bad is it for you to draw from less later 3 hours of sleep?

The average amount of sleep that I get is usually around 3 or 4 hours. I've read all these things where on earth you need 8+ hours. But I function merely fine with lately a few hours. I'll even go to bed but I'll wake up up 3 1/2 hours later and can't walk back to sleep (ex. jump to bed at 10, am awake by 1 or 2 wide awake and can't dance back to sleep) But seriously, how impossible exactly is it?

My mom once told me about this doctor she go to and he would only sleep roughly 4 hours a night and this doc be older but he have so much energy and could even put his leg trailing his head and stuff lol.
