It sounds as though the piercer hit a nerve. I have the top of my ear pierced when I was 15. They hit a impudence but all I get was tiny red capillary through my ear that haven't gone away. The danger next to getting ear cartilage pierced is if they hit the wrong nerve it can blind you. Or do you to lose a sense of taste or smell. Go hindmost to where you get it pierced and ask them what their opinion is.
