How to comfort fingers that hurt when playing the guitar?

I am teaching myself and my finger tips hurt so discouraging! I am a violinist so I hold tough skin already and I have short nail and that stuff dealt beside already.

Although your skin is tough from the violin, it's not tough in indistinguishable places, and the materials used to make the strings are different. Eventually your fingers will become calloused and the misery will go away - you'll simply have to stick it out for very soon.
