Cover burns or confer on them?

I accidently burnt myself this afternoon when I be placing a piece of wood into the fireplace. As I was pushing the wood in, my mitt touched the metal on the inside of the heater and I adjectives the skin between my thumb and index finger on my right hand.

As you can probably guess, it is still hurting considerably and is still red.

I be just wondering if I should cover it up near a sterile patch or leave it? It hasn't blistered.
