I have spinal stenosis and I'm considering a rowing gadget to tone up my abs, hips, thighs, etc. .?
If a rowing machine is not the "thing" for me, can you recommend a better choice? I hold numbness in my foot at times and pain within buttocks. Physical therapy is not helping that much.
Answer:
It depends on the works of your stenosis. If your stenosis is being cause by boney build up...more of a "degenerative" type of condition, rowing will probably be fine because most people beside stenosis tolerate a seated "flexed" posture very resourcefully. They also usually tolerate cycling very very well. Your are right, physical therapy cannot cure this condition...just show you what to do to "manage" the condition.
If your stenosis is being cause a bulging or herniated disc (meaning it is the disc that is truly causing the narrowing of the intermediate canal or neuroforamen...and not a boney substance), later rowing and cycling might actually product you feel worse...as these ethnic group USUALLY feel WORSE surrounded by the flexed position. I'd opt for swimming or walking in these cases. It is possible that physical therapy might serve this condition...but you've really got to find someone who specializes in the organization of this type of disorder.
Good luck...and good for you for wanting to preserve up your level of fitness. My dad have a degenerative stenosis...he cannot walk more than 100 foot, but can ride his bike for 20miles without any aching whatsoever.
I sleep a lot but still touch tired in the year?
it is important to be sure of the amount of stenosis you own. also if you are having incontinence of urine or muscle feebleness, you are likely to involve surgery. if the MRI shows a stenosis of less than 10 to 12 mm better to return with operated.More Questions & Answers...
