Hi, sorry you are have trouble, but ankle sprains are notoriously harsh. The ankle carries the full body shipment while the foot arch allows wobble due to the arch structure. A sprain is much more than a strain... strains can resolve within a few weeks, but a sprain can be involved on the even of a fracture, and can cause lifelong fearfulness. The swelling indicates inflammation and you must suspect the ligaments are partially torn or more. Redness and boil should be of concern, if present.

It would be wise to capture the ankle examined. At least, find an ankle support or wear high-top boots or tennis shoes to firmly support the area. Limit walking, apply rime packs for 20 minutes three or four times a daylight with the leg elevated to cut back swelling. Ibuprofen (motrin) or Naproxen (aleve) may ease the distress and help conduct operations the swelling in part.

If things do not rearrange over the next few weeks, consider a scan of the ankle to rule out involve for surgical intervention.

Recovery will require steady gentle exercise over a length of time to allow muscle-tendon function to stabilize the weakened ankle.

Pool exercises are great, and summer is here, try running in place in the wet at low chest level, swimming steadily and treading sea.

Good luck and best wishes,

You can look for swelling and some type of pain for up to a year. Alot of times an ankle sprain can hurt worse and longer than a break because adjectives of the ligaments and tendons are somewhat torn and they have to make well. What you are having is usual, and alot of people hold a long time to heal.
